Sea Pollution Solution
Project goal
To generate an idea as a solution to one of the UN Sustainable Development goals. We chose to solve the ‘life below water’ issue working in groups of three. This was part of my I am the code two day hackathon work experience.
Above: UN Sustainable Development goals.
What I did
– Choosing the challenge by looking at the challenge’s problem, pain points and opportunities
– Exploring the solution
– A solution app design
– App Prototype
– Pitching idea to I am the code
Outcome
Created a possible solution to help solve the ‘life below water’ issue by exploring ideas and creating a prototype. The idea was to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
The detail
Choosing the challenge
As a group, we selected two challenges from the UN Sustainable Development goals. We found that the two most important ones were ‘gender equality’ and ‘life below water’. We went on to explore both.
Exploring the solution
As a group, we explored various solutions to solve the UN Sustainable Development Goal ‘life below water’. We came up with the idea of having a moving robot collecting rubbish in the sea with an app to help track and motivate users to invest and collect more rubbish.
Solution app design
To support the robot, we created an app to help track and inform funders and users about the robot’s status.
App prototype
Creating a prototype on Scratch to simulate how the robot tracking would be visualised to stimulate investment and increase engagement as the robot cleans the rubbish from the sea.
